ABOUT THE AUTHORS from the book, Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual by Rick Sternbach and Mike Okuda originally published in 1991 by Pocket Books Rick Sternbach currently works as senior illustrator on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Rick is responsible for the design of props, spaceships, and many other elements of the show. Twice honored with science fictionÕs prestigious Hugo Award for Best Artist, Rick also won an Emmy award as an assistant art director on the PBS series Cosmos. His other media credits include The Last Starfighter and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Rick is one of science fictionÕs best-known artists and his work has been featured on the covers of such magazines as Analog and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, as well as in the pages of Aviation Week. Along with co-author Mike Okuda, Rick serves as a technical consultant to the writing staff of Star Trek: The Next Generation Michael Okuda is the scenic art supervisor for Star Trek: The Next Generation and is responsible for that showÕs control panels, signage, alien written languages, computer readout animation, and other strange things. MichaelÕs work on Star Trek was recognized with an Emmy nomination for Best Visual Effects. His other credits include Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, The Flash, Flight of the Intruder, and a bunch of commercials you probably havenÕt seen. Mike is from Hawaii, but lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife, Denise, and their dog, Molly.
